As per the Purana In Tretayuga, a king named Bali ruled Kishkindha. When Lord Shri Ram was going to free Maa Sita from the captivity of Lankapati Ravana, he met Bali’s real brother Sugriva. Sugriva told Shri Ram about his brother’s terror and misrule and promised to help him if he got his kingdom back. Then Shri Ram killed Bali and freed Sugriva and all the people from his terror. That day was the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. This is the reason why on this day, especially in South India, the Vijay Pataka (victory flag) is hoisted in homes and the Gudi Padwa festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

A story related to Gudi Padwa festival is also popular in Maharashtra that on the day of Pratipada date, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had defeated the Vidheshi Ghuspedhiye (Foreign Infiltrators) and Shivaji Maharaj’s army had hoisted the Vijay Pataka (victory flag). Since then this day is celebrated as a symbol of Vijay Parv (victory festival).
Chaitra Navratri begins on the day of Gudi Padwa and the Hindu New Year also begins on this day. Because of which Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, is worshiped on this day and the New Year is welcomed with great pomp. This festival is considered a symbol of Lord Brahma.

How To Make A Gudi at your Home or Place?
Then, first of all Bandhana (tie) a Yellow colored cloth on the Bamboo Rod.
After this, with the help of Sui and Dhaga (needle and thread), tie the neem leaves and mango leaves together in a round shape.
Now tie these leaves at the Upper End of the Bamboo with the help of a Rope.
Keep in mind that you have to tie them lengthwise, so that after placing the Brass/Copper Pot, it is visible outside.
Now make a Swastika Design on the lotus and place it upside down on the Bamboo rod.
Put Flowers on this Gudi (rod) and Now In this way your Gudi is ready.
